The Sunshine Singers Dementia Choir is an enjoyable social gathering
For
*people who are living with dementia or a related medical condition like Parkinson’s or Multiple Sclerosis
*live in the community or in a care facility
*like to listen to music and/or sing
*family carers, family members, paid carers or friends who need to attend to undertake the caring responsibility
*like to be in a group with others who understand dementia
*like to develop supportive friendships
*those who would benefit socially, emotionally, psychologically and
*those who would benefit cognitively, from thinking, reading, listening, singing and reminiscing
The Choir has an experienced musician and choir conductor, Anne and a pianist, Reverend Jeanette who select the popular songs. They provide songbooks with large print words from favourite songs like “Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head” or “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling”.
Individuals, like Roy, play the harmonica and invited musicians play other instruments like a violin, cello and recorder.
The DNSC partners with the St Andrew’s Anglican Church volunteers to operate the Choir.
The venue is the church at 46 Upper Gay Tce, Kings Beach, Caloundra with parking on the right side. Disability Parking and a wheelchair ramp is on the left side of the church.
Dates: Every second Friday in School terms. 10 am – 11.30 am
There are special occasions held at the church like the Ecumenical Services for September, (Dementia Month) and Christmas.
Morning tea is provided by the Church volunteers.
Free and donations are welcome.
Please Register so we can organize morning tea and seating.
The choir is not a formal choir that performs in other events or at other venues or competes in choir competitions.
